The Experience

A Day Designed Around You

Imagine a day on the Pacific designed entirely around what you love most. Step aboard your private boat in Flamingo and leave the crowds behind as we set off to explore hidden corners of the coastline — quiet beaches, crystal-clear waters, and vibrant marine habitats that few visitors ever experience.

There is no fixed itinerary and no rush. Some guests spend hours snorkeling among schools of tropical fish, while others prefer paddleboarding over calm waters, relaxing on secluded beaches, casting a fishing rod, or enjoying the thrill of tubing across the bay. The beauty of a private charter is that every trip becomes its own unique adventure.

Along the way, the ocean often rewards us with unforgettable encounters. Dolphins may appear beside the boat, sea turtles can surface unexpectedly, and in season, even whales may grace the horizon. Whether you travel as a family, a couple, or a group of friends, the experience is tailored to your interests, your pace, and your idea of a perfect day on the water.

Questions & Answers

Costa Rica Boat Tour Questions, Answered

Everything guests ask before booking a private snorkeling or sportfishing charter out of Playa Flamingo, Guanacaste.

How much does a private boat tour in Costa Rica cost?

A private 4-hour charter from Playa Flamingo is $590 — snorkeling, sportfishing, or a hidden beach. A full day combining all three is $990. The price is for the whole boat, not per person: up to 6 guests on snorkeling and hidden-beach charters, up to 4 on sportfishing. Children 5 and under travel free. A reservation deposit plus Costa Rica’s required 13% sales tax secures your date.

What is the best snorkeling tour in Guanacaste, Costa Rica?

For clear water, book the morning charter, 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM — light is highest overhead and the surface is typically calmest before the afternoon breeze builds. The waters off Playa Flamingo hold rocky reef and volcanic pinnacle habitat where king angelfish, parrotfish, pufferfish, schooling jacks, spotted eagle rays, and green and olive ridley sea turtles are all common sightings. The Catalina Islands, Guanacaste’s best-known snorkel and dive site, lie roughly six miles west of Flamingo.

What fish can you catch on a Guanacaste sportfishing charter?

Inshore waters off Playa Flamingo produce roosterfish, snapper, grouper, amberjack, and jack crevalle year-round. Offshore, the Papagayo region is known for sailfish and blue marlin, with the peak billfish run from December through April, and mahi-mahi (dorado), yellowfin tuna, and wahoo showing strongest from May through October. Our 4-hour charter carries sportfishing tackle plus kids’ rods, and takes up to 4 anglers.

Where do the boat tours depart from, and can you pick us up?

Charters depart from Playa Flamingo, with beach pick-up available at Playa Potrero. Both sit on the Guanacaste coast within easy reach of Playa Conchal, Brasilito, Las Catalinas, and Tamarindo, and about an hour from Liberia International Airport (LIR). Hotel transportation can be arranged for an additional service fee.

Should we book the morning or afternoon tour?

Morning tours (8:00 AM – 12:00 PM) give the brightest underwater visibility and are the better pick if snorkeling is your priority. Afternoon tours (2:00 PM – 6:00 PM) trade some clarity for a slower pace and a Pacific sunset on the way in. Both run 4 hours and both are private.

Is a private charter good for families with young children?

Yes. Children 5 and under are free on snorkeling and hidden-beach charters, kids’ fishing rods are on board, and life jackets are carried in children’s sizes. Because the boat is yours alone there is no fixed schedule — you set the pace, stop when you want, and head back early if the kids have had enough. A water hammock, stand-up paddleboards, towable tubing, and a Subwing are all included.

What is included in the price?

Every charter includes life jackets, snorkeling equipment, sportfishing equipment, kids’ fishing rods, a water hammock, stand-up paddleboards, towable tubing and a Subwing, drinks, and food prepared for your trip — tropical fruit, dips, ceviche, guacamole, chips, and freshly baked goodies. Bring towels, a cap, and sunscreen. Transportation is the only add-on.

What wildlife might we see?

Bottlenose and spotted dolphins are seen along this coast year-round, and green and olive ridley sea turtles surface regularly. Humpback whales pass through Guanacaste waters in two seasons: the North Pacific population from roughly December through April, and the South Pacific population from July through November. Sightings are never guaranteed — this is wild water, not an aquarium.

What boat will we be on?

A 27-foot deep-V hull with twin 115 HP Yamaha outboards, cushioned seating for 6, ample shade, a bathroom, a fresh-water shower, a Bluetooth stereo, GPS and fish finder, a roof rack for boards, and a sturdy boarding ladder. The deep-V hull is chosen for a soft, stable ride in Pacific chop.

What is the cancellation policy?

Your deposit is fully refundable up to 72 hours before departure. Cancellations or date changes inside 72 hours are non-refundable, because the boat and crew are held exclusively for your group. Tours run in sun and in tropical rain, but if official conditions make it unsafe to leave the marina we cancel and refund the deposit in full.
